Joy in Dark Places

Here is the newest ODBD Sketch

I created this card with ODBD Scriptures 6 (part of which was won from their generous challenges) and the bloghop drawing from Want2Scrap (spellbinders and rhinestones).

You might be wondering why I used such a dark background for such a joyful verse? The word strength is a clue.  We don't need strength when things are great.  We need it when they are not wonderful and sunshiny.  That came to mind when making this...the times I needed His strength.  Meaning...the world around me seemed dark and ominous-but His light shone through that.  I purposely put the lighter corner at the top. ;)  May you have His strength!

Thank you for stopping by.

The Storm

Sometimes the Lord calms the storm and sometimes the Lord lets the storm rage, and calms His child.
Oh, how true this is!  I specifically bought this sentiment for a lady who was going through breast cancer and chemo.  She told me that it really spoke to her.  To God be the glory, because He led me to find this comfort for her.
I wanted to share this with you; in the hopes that it would bring you comfort today.  I made a card which was inspired by Embellish Magazine's Text Color Trends Challenge.

May you be encouraged today.

Pick a Square

Wowzers, if there was ever a time to do a CAS card....this is it.  Less Is More's Week 17 Pick a Square will FORCE you to leave some white space!!!!  I love the look of CAS cards...but can't seem to achieve it.  So, I knew I HAD to do this challenge.

I picked a stamp I have owned forever....

  but have rarely used.

I glued some clear beads to the bowl .  I have TONS of these....I can't remember why. ;)  No matter...it came in handy for this card.  I like this look and plan to make more!

Thanks for peeking in, and thanks, Less is More...for cornering me into white space.

I needed that. ;)

Have a great day!

Fussy Cutting a B&W

Just Add Ink Fussy Cutting is a challenge I didn't want to miss.  I got this beautiful pottery stamp yesterday and knew it was fussy cutting I could handle, being a newbie and all. :)  My Amanda cut out the cross for me...she is great at that!  It was a joint effort, is that ok? :)

As for colors, Play Date Cafe's PDCC83 was my inspiration.

Well, got a homeschool program to attend, so I better run.  Ya'll, God motivated me to finish those yearbooks I mentioned! He inserted all these kind people to lend a hand.  What a blessing!  We have a thick, 71 page yearbook to pass out tonight and I am excited.  You have a blessed weekend!

Thanks for peeking in!

I just received my Want2Scrap goodies in the mail yesterday and made a card for my DH while he was out of the house.

Isn't that deer diecut beautiful?
The yellow cardstock in the center is what the deer was mounted on in the packaging....WASTE NOT,WANT NOT! ;)

  This week's Color Throwdown 143

was a great place to start!  You can pick your combo...so I went with the yellow and green (best I could match up for a man's card).

Hope you like...thanks for peeking in! ;)

Papertrey May Blog Hop Challenge

Today is the May Blog Hop for Papertrey Ink.  I know there will be tons of inspiration!  The challenge is your favorite take on flowers, using Papertrey products.

I want to share a modern flower with you today, using my favorite elements in the Grunge Me set for the petals and stamens.

Boy Basics Game On had the button for the center of the main flower and the sentiment.

I am also entering this in Moxie Fab's Tuesday Trigger...it inspired the colors:

Thank you for peeking in and have fun on the hop! ;)

Kids Grieve Too

Between Papertrey Ink's MIM #16 Sympathy Card inspiration and Just Add Ink's colors

I was able to create a card today.

The only other time I've used this stamp, was when a young girl's grandfather had died.  It is a sweet image that looks as though the pup is comforting the little girl.  I know how much emotional healing our dog can bring....there are no words, many times, for the pain we feel.  That is what's great about animals...they say so much without speaking.

Thank you for peeking in today. ;)

A Windmill That Was a Pinwheel and a Plaid Dad Card

Mark's Finest Papers Challenge #56 calls for tone on tone cards with the main image popped up.

My popup is cut from a pinwheel die from Lil Inker.  I mounted the blades on a lighthouse to give the illusion of a Windmill, but only used 4 dies instead of the 6 a pinwheel would have.  I then fringe cut the blades to make them more masculine..the curve is really cute, but thought it might be too cute for this card I am giving to my Dad.

The image is from ODBD Keep My Lamp Burning.  Can you tell how much I love this set?  It is so versatile!  I have wanted to make a windmill for awhile now, and originally bought this set to do that!  Since I incorporated plaid, I am entering a second card in ODBD Plaid or Gingham challenge.

Thanks for peeking in today! ;)

Supplies I used:

ODBD Keep My Lamp Burning, Lil Inker pinwheel die, Vellum quote from quote book, Staz On Ink, Scor Pal, MS Fringe Scissors

Mallory's Spring Card

Mallory created her Spring Card for Scrapping Mommy's Challenge:

I love her mod take of spring with black and pink. ;)

She based it on Lisi's Sketch:

Mallory's Card: Sizzix Flower dies, Want2Scrap bling, Sizzix Lucky Ducky dies

There is VICTORY today in more than one way...my girls crafted with me today!  I am a proud, proud mama and am grateful to Scrapping Mommy for hosting this excellent Kid's challenge!
I enjoyed crafting in the same room (and being so caught up in my card, I didn't "meddle" in theirs). :)  I turned off that pesky meddling switch...crafting is such a personal thing, isn't it?

Shelby has a sweet, soft card for spring:

I love how she highlighted her bunny. ;)

Amanda went on a slightly different route:

I love the vibrancy in her card. ;)

Mallory created this mod card with Want2Scrap bling I won:

I love her classy pink and black. ;)

God created them uniquely with their own styles and visions.  I love it!!!

As for me, I created a card for Our Daily Bread's ODBDSLC61 Plaid or Gingham .

I used ODBD Keep My Lamp Burning set.

Weave Something Beautiful

Today's card colors are inspired by Play Date Cafe PDCC82.

I used ODBD As You Graduate's quote from Corrie Ten Boom.

I used the weave technique in this card...I really like the look.

I am entering it in ODBD Frame It in Texture.  I used a Cuttlebug Embossing folder for the mustard cardstock and a Marvy corrugator for the brown.
I layered everything on Kraft cardstock...which qualifies it for the StampTV Free For All Friday.

My thought when making this was "Let God weave something beautiful with your life....."

Thank you for peeking in today! ;)

True Blue

CAS-ual Friday's Bring on the Bling

gave me an opportunity to showcase that baby bling from  Want2Scrap.  I mentioned in my last post that they had gifted me with goodies since I won their blog hop....what a blessing!

Pals Paper Arts sketch gave me a goal to reach....

Here is my card:

It also meets the requirements of Mark's Finest Papers monochromatic blues.  This stamp from ISC  is a classic, and one of my favorites.  All the stamps are from that set.  The sentiment is from the Best Occasions Vellum Quote Pack.

Thank you for peeking in today! ;)

Gateway to Weave and Some Shimmer

Look at Color Throwdown #142's lovely colors!

Here is my card's front flap:

I had wanted to make something weaved for some time now.  I used MS Fringe Scissors to make even strips.  I only separated the grey strips, but left the black intact so that it would hold together as I weaved.  I cut it out with a Marvy circle punch.  That was scary...wondering if it would all fall apart.

Here is a closeup of the "weaved" circle I made.
I modgepodged it on both sides to keep it stable.   It gave it a nice, malleable feel.  Then I sprayed it with my homemade shimmer! This is my second Papertrey MIM #15 card which calls for making your own spray mist.  My first card used black flowers as a mask...but I wanted to use the flowers themselves.
I don't know the technical name for this kind of card, but let's just call it a gateway card.

Here is the second layer with shimmered flowers:

See that sentiment?  I was able to use my Spellbinders Labels Eleven Die so generously gifted to me by Want2Scrap.  I had won their first blog hop, can you believe it?  Heidi was kind enough to let me know I had won!  It came just in time, too, today, when I was ready to cut that sentiment out. How cool is that?  I will let you know when I use that beautiful bling they sent also.

Thank you for stopping in!  I appreciate it. :)

All that was used in this card:
Hero Arts sentiment, Sizzix Dogwood flower die, corrugator, Versamark Ink, black embossing powder, homemade shimmer (Adirondack expresso and perfect pearls), MS background stamp, MS border punch, MS fringe scissors, Spellbinders Labels Eleven, Scor-Pal, Brilliance Platinum Planet Ink

Cupcake Skyscraper

Moxie Fab has an awesome Tuesday Trigger this week...Some Royal Fun!

Yummy, yummy, eh?

I played off of the black lines and graphics.  I came up with this:

I seem to be making more and more of these endless skyscraper cards.  I love these skinny dudes! :)  I brought out my MS pattern stamps and had fun making textures!

I couldn't decide between blue or pink cupcakes, so I made a combo!  I love the way the embossing gives "frosting" to these yummies.

Thank you so much for peeking in! You are too, too sweet. ;)

Homemade Shimmer

Papertrey Ink's Challenge this week is to create your own shimmer!  You use a reinker, spray bottle, and water to make your own mist.  I am so glad I tried this...it's really cool.

I made my own mist, with Adirondack Expresso, water, and perfect pearls.  I laid a couple of diecuts from my Sizzix Dogwood flower to create silhouettes.

As for the dimension of my card, I have to give credit to Jenny at Crafting in the country.  Her twine tree was so cute, and left an impression on me. You can see why!

The embroidery floss gave my card just the ooomph it needed, I think.  I twirled the floss around my pinky finger, and then ran it through the Xyron.

Hope you like this....thanks for peeking in!

Smoke and Mirrors

My project today was motivated by Our Daily Bread's Challenge ODBDSLC59 Embedded Embossing.

  I love this look.

After adding your shapes and strips, you emboss everything.

See that nifty notch?

That's the result of messing up the first barn.  I cut it out and did another one.  Smoke and Mirrors , stampers, ...smoke and mirrors. :)

Thanks for peeking in. :)

Striped Skirt and a Simple Card Gone Mad

got me in the mood for stripes today!

I pulled out all this beautiful striped paper I had been scared of.

I was - GOING - TO - USE - STRIPES - TODAY!!!!

Stripes scare me, because they are so, well...straight!  You can tell if they are not cut right.
I'm not a "color in the/cut on the line" kind of gal.  I am a "get as close in there as possible" kind of gal.  I eyeball everything and am so grateful God uses me in the creative world.  I wouldn't have made a safe surgeon. ;)
JustRite Friday's Challenge 054 sketch started me on the right path by giving me a layout I could use!  I love this sentiment from JustRite's Simple Blessings.  Get it while you still can...it's a great deal!

I started off with a simple card.  Don't ask me what happened, but it spun out of control from there!  I went from making a simple card to making a project card with a scripture tag holder and mini notebook.  This time, going mad was a good thing! :)

I wanted to make something special for my daughters' Sunday School "Part-Time" teacher.  I'm excited to have something cool to give him!  He is passionate about God's Word, and I know he will pass these out.
I am also entering this in the ODBD Stamping in Time Challenge.  It calls for using a tag, and I've got tons of tags in this set! :)

Thank you for hanging out today! :)

Mod Flowers

I am trying out Paper Crafts Color Inspiration #5 today.  The colors are: Beetle Black, Lily White, Pink Fairy and Tangelo Blast.   I love this bright selection!

I thought mod flowers were in order...

I keep pulling out these MS pattern stamps, they seem to go with everything.  I stamped the "vase", embossed, and notched out triangles-according to the pattern.  I matched a wee circle to layer under the black flower.

My KaiserCraft stems came in handy.  Modern flowers need mod leaves!

Thank you so much for peeking in today! :)
