I colored a water scene with brush pens,

 then I experimented a little, by sprinkling my neglected green glitter and light blue embossing powders willy nilly across the panel.

It gave just the sandy texture and bit of shimmer I was aiming for!

After coloring the mermaid with brush pens, I used a Gelly Roll and White Uniball pen for detailing~
