Time to Celebrate with Some Embossing Fun

Papercraft's Color Inspiration #6 got me motivated to do this card for my nephew who has a birthday next month.

Making one nephew a rocking card like this had to be matched somehow.

when doing this technique. I am such a newbie, that I would have blown embossing powder ALL OVER my den had she not warned me.  

You sprinkle embossing powders of various colors.  I varied the embossing powders in the image from ODBD TIME and did it the old fashioned way with Versamark Ink.  That is when it hit me to try Jess' way.

I stuck with the colors from Paper Craft's Choice.

Mark's Finest Papers has a Sparkle Challenge.  Hence, the red sparkly embossing powder.

Three Pottery Pieces, Three Colors, Three Challenges !

Here is a card utilizing colors that are new for me.

I used this stamp set, You are the Potter, from ODBD that has such a wonderful image and verses. ODBD's Anything Goes challenge is this week.  Use Our Daily Bread Designs stamps to enter!

I enjoyed making the cutout in the lefthand corner.  I sort of stumbled on that one...scoring and cutting with a craft knife.  It just needed something to balance the wonderful verse on the right lower corner. At least I thought so. ;)

I was inspired by Moxie Fab World's Tuesday Trigger:

The sun/flower in the right corner inspired my daisy poking out above the coral cutout.  The vase is what made me think of this image I used.

had me thinking hard! ;)

Another Moxie Stampy Card Plus a BUG

   I made this other card for the Stamp It! Cards Week Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.

   I have discovered the beauty of inking up an acrylic block.  

Simple, clear, beautiful...wonderful background to highlight an element.  

Here are three different nature silhouettes each with an acrylic background.

A Polaroid Technique

I love it when I learn a new technique!

Papertrey's Make it Monday #21 is Polaroid 2-Step Masking.

It may seem complicated (I get intimidated by too many steps).  But seriously, it's not.  If I can do it, anyone can do it.  

I thought the hardest thing was choosing WHAT TO FRAME.   

I decided on this.

I wanted the brightest colors and the simplest image...it has been rainy and gloomy lately.

I added a bit of PTI's Grunge Me in the right corner of the frame for a little "rockin'".  ;)   I also distressed the DP with sandpaper.

You Rock and a Funny

Stamp It! Cards Week Challenge in the Moxie Fab World calls for stamping as the predominant element.

   

Here is my card.

I wasn't trying to be funny by putting it on a rock...it was the spot where the sun hit. 

But I laughed out loud when I saw my pic in the viewer.

Clarity, a Rainbow, and a Clear Acrylic Block

I made a rainbow card for two challenges. 

There is a special edge on it which warrants a submission to Moxie Fab's Beautiful Borders.

   My coil binding machine made the holes.  Using inexpensive embroidery floss, I wound the colors of the rainbow.  Originally, it was the top edge of a card I did...until I took pictures and didn't like it. 

I salvaged it and attached it in a fold to this second card.

 My original card had a lot more color going on.

I went overboard for Embellish's Rainbow Color Trends Challenge.

The edge has its own appeal and needed more white for a backdrop. 

The skinny rectangles were stamped with the side of an acrylic block.  

All these lovely stamps I own...

...and I stamp with the block.

Don't tell my husband!  ;)

I would still like the option of buying more stamps.

Creating this got me thinking of when my girls were babies. 

They would play with the wrapping paper of presents.  They cared less about the gift itself...they just wanted to mess with the crinkly, shiny paper.

We would carefully untangle their chubby fingers from the paper and try to attract them with the COOL NEW TOY we had spent time and money on. 

It makes me sad to think that we do that as grownups.  We (I !) stare at pretty, shiny, insignificant things.  Until God draws our (my !) attention to the real valuable stuff.

Him.  

Our loved ones.

Our not so loved ones.

Amazing what stamping with a clear acrylic block does for the soul.  

It gave me a little clarity today anyway. ;)

Stained Glass Dress Plus Amanda's Card

We are just in time to meet Color Q's Deadline....

My stainglassy look was inspired by this dress online

I used a foam brush (still have my crafty stuff handy) to brush stroke with blue ink.  I sponged the geometric pieces within geometric masks I tried cutting out and laying on the card...it looked too "formal".  At least I could use them for masks!

I say "WE" are just in time, because my Amanda made one too! ;)

I believe she inspired me with her red in the corner (hers was done first!).  Check out her "Going Green"...the right hand corner was salvaged from a border punch container backdrop...how cool is that?

A Fancy Edged Christmas Card

   I am so glad I got this card done...I have been thinking about these colors and trying different things.

   I feel the pressure this year to make cards.  My family and friends expect a handmade card since they know I spend my free time doing this. ;)  

Once it's your thing...it's your thing, right?

Papertrey June Blog Hop Challenge

Here is the card I created....it must have taken 6 tries to get it the way I envisioned it.

Things I have learned from doing this type of card:

~Wipe down the acrylic block around the image before stamping or it will leave smudges.

~Clean the stamp really well before using a different color or it will get muddied.  If need be, take a paper towel and wipe down the ink pad to get any transferred color.

~Watch those inky fingers!!!  Have a container of baby wipes and paper towels ready. Use them EVERY time you stamp...whatever it takes to get the job done cleanly!  ;)

Stars, a Sketch, and Patriotic Colors

  My friend's birthday is the Fourth of July.  How fun is that?! 

She has the awesome personality to match that day too...she's like a party waiting to happen.;)  

 I shall be a good friend this year and send her a card:

   I am new to stamping and coloring...but it wasn't hard to color the chipboard button and simple white ribbon with a grey Copic marker. The ribbon became a little stiff after coloring, but I like that!  It was easier to handle and lay flat.

I colored the red stars with a Memento marker.  I used an Innovative Stamp Creations stamp for the background (I hardly have any grey cardstock).

There are 3 challenges that got me headed in the right direction to make this fun card:

Pink is Christmas Too

Up until a few months ago...embroidery was my thing. 

June/July is when you find the first sets of Christmas embroidery designs.

  Maybe that's why I'm thinking about Christmas!!! 

 I used  MIM #20 Reverse Masking

to make this Christmas Card (that's 2 for my stash!).

I am loving bright colors and not wanting traditional colors...can you tell? :)

Weird thing...one quilt store I visited said they got the Christmas fabrics in the summer...and got Fall materials after that. 

Is there a similar pattern with stamps? 

I would appreciate any insight on this! ;)

Bit of Coloring, a Sketch and Throwdown

   I made an anniversary card using Card Patterns 120.

   My colors were chosen from Color Throwdown 146. 

Just Add Ink 72  challenges us to use coloring.

Here is my combo challenge card:

   I added a bit of 3D to this card with the MS punch acting almost like a curtain.  

Here is the side view:

  I added scoring and curved it.  I've only done this one other time.

I also waved the sentiment...such a fun sketch! ;)
